Essential Questions: How does art reflect a civilization’s beliefs and values?
What can be learned about Ancient Greece by observing the art of the Golden Era?
What kind of art can I create to reflect my knowledge of Ancient Greece?
Art Product Directions
Create an art object, architectural model, or artifact based upon the civilization you have been studying.
This can take a variety of forms: create pottery based upon Greek pottery, create artifact, design a building complex.
You may use any materials you choose.
The BEST pieces will have a personal connection or be a personal reinterpretation.
For example: one year Chong created a mosaic of her favorite types of fruit. Another year a student did a black and white Greek-inspired vase on which he painted an alligator. You may NOT use these 2 ideas, but they can serve as inspiration.
A number of books and websites will give directions on HOW to make what you want to make.
Base size limit: 12” x 16” Of course, it does not have to be this big.
Artist Statement
Objective: To help the viewer understand the object’s importance to or place in Greek civilization.
A) A short (2 or 3) multi-paragraph essay:
1)What was the “inspiration” piece, and what was its importance or what was it used for in Ancient Greece?
2) If you personalized the piece clarify the elements and what they mean to you.
B) a picture of the product with a “title” and its civilization (Ancient Greece)
Grammar/writing should be excellent. Use a basic size 12 font for the essay, though you may choose any font for the product’s “title.”
